Dating back thousands of years is one of the most difficult
moldings to make by hand. This molding goes back to ancient
Greece and is now found everywhere in the free world. It can
be seen at The Acropolis, the entablatures of a cornice of
most of the early wooden and masonry public buildings of this
country's cities, and even on the exterior columns of the
White House in the neck of the Ionic order.
The
molding is referred to as "egg and dart." The egg
stands for life or fertility and the dart stands for death.
The molding should never be cut off, it always has to return
into itself or encompass a column at the capital the same
as many think life does. Life always returns to life in nature.
Reflecting on life, as of reflections in the mirror, we realize
our contribution is really a culmination of the many ideals
and aspirations of those of the past-- egg and dart-- becoming
a celebration of achievement, leaving our legacy behind for
others to build upon for the future.
